Remarkable 3 Causes of Noise Pollution in 2023

Noise is defined as unwanted sound, an irritant, and a source of stress. Most of the noise one hears originates from human activities. Noise has become a permanent part of our lives because of machinery, industry, and technological development. Noise harms the boy and his mind. Noise causes irritation or annoyance, constricts your arteries, increases adrenaline flow, and forces your heart to work faster.

The word noise (Latin nausea) is usually defined as an unwanted or unpleasant sound that causes discomfort. Noise is also defined as the wrong sound in the wrong place at the wrong time.” Noise pollution means “the unwanted sound dumped into the atmosphere leading to health hazards.”

Formerly noise was limited only to the industry. This, too, was not much as there were only a few industries. These days there has been rapid industrial growth. Moreover, a population explosion has occurred due to heavy traffic, urban crowd, and electric equipment. All these have added to the noise nuisance in the environment. In our country, besides these, the two other factors are the religious and social functions which increase the gravity of the situation.

Historic 3 Causes of Noise Pollution

Sources of noise pollution can be divided into the following three parts:

1. Natural Sources

Nature plays a vital role in noise pollution. The main thing about this pollution is that it is not permanent and bitter and harsh. In the temporary noise pollutants, we include thunder caps, storms, windfall, heavy raindrops, hailstorms, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, etc. In permanent noise, we include the sound of the waterfall, sea waves, rivers’ ebb, and flow, wind blowing in some regions, etc. Both these pollutions are related to a limited area or short term. Secondly, nature itself can control such kind of pollution.

2. Biotic Sources

All these creatures produce some sound or sound is produced due to their various activities. The roaring of lions, the trumpeting of elephants, the braying of an ass, lowing of cows, the barking of dogs, and chirping birds are natural sounds. Moreover, the sound is produced during animals fighting and running, etc. Human laughter, speaking, crying, fighting, or singing without any instrument also fall into this category. This pollution is also not very dangerous, and it is also short-term and limited.

3. Man-Made Sources

This pollution is the most dangerous type of noise pollution. The main reason for this pollution is the things of comfort and employment made by human beings. This pollution is continuous, unlimited, and harsh. Man is responsible for this, also called an artificial source. The description of these sources are as follows:

(i) Industrialization

In the medieval era, man’s comforts and requirements were limited. In modern times, a man stepped in the direction of industrialization. First, small machines and tools were made, and afterward, heavy machines and factories took their place. These factories go on working round the clock. They produce much noise. This noise affects not only the workers in the factory but also the nearby area. In these factories, every kind of mechanical and production work keeps going.

(ii) Means of Transportation

Industrialization and modernization have changed the nature and number of means of transport to a great extent. In modern times, we use two-wheeler vehicles, three-wheeler vehicles, motorcars, trucks, trains, and aircraft as the main means of transportation. These means have developed rapidly due to urbanization. All these means produce a higher and greater amount of noise. The people dwelling near bus stands or railway stations are aware of this noise. One motorcar or truck produces more than 100 DB sounds, while a train produces more than 140 DB sounds. Aeroplanes and Jet planes sometimes produce more than 180 DB to 200 DB sounds. These means of transport produce sound while transporting and use horns. This sound is more bitter and harsh than a normal sound.

(iii) Social and Religious Activities

Man is a social animal. Social gatherings, public functions, etc., are common because they provide a new charm and energy to the monotonous life of the people. They are social and religious customs. They also provide some peace. But the other aspect of these activities is that loudspeakers are used for prayers, hymns, religious ceremonies, etc. Their sound is very loud, and it covers and affects a large area.

(iv) Means of Recreation

From the beginning, the man entertains himself in one way or the other. But in modern times, due to electronic devices, there are changes in musical instruments and their sound. The new music system is much higher in volume than the earlier ones. New generations like western music. Likewise, many families also set high radio and TV volumes. People only care about their comfort and satisfaction without thinking about others. So, means of recreation also produce noise pollution.

(v) Other Causes

Besides these, some other factors also cause noise pollution. Such as:

• Various festivals, especially Diwali, are responsible for noise pollution as well as these spread some harmful chemicals into the atmosphere also.
• The workers and many chemical explosions produce noise pollution in the mining area.
• Agricultural types of equipment and machines also create noise pollution.
• The crowded area-like market is also responsible for noise pollution.
• To celebrate regional, state-level, or national festivals, noise pollutants are used.
• Loudspeakers are used in various rallies, processions, canvassing, etc.
• In the army, noise is produced during training and using various arms.
• For the advertisement of any product in the market, sound instruments are used on a large scale.

After considering all these factors, we conclude that man is the most responsible factor for noise pollution. Moreover, it is the most dangerous also. Unfortunately, despite the control of noise pollution, it is increasing daily.
